My name is Dexter. An R.N for Cali, I workout regularly, and I use the P90X program (It does work). I like to help others to begin basic workouts because I went through my troubles of building my body up. Throughout my Middle - 1st year in College I was skinny, a mere 100 lbs at 5'8" guy. Through hard work and motivation of other people I was able to get down my routine and begin my body building journey and it does feel good. Now I'm 140lbs with ripped muscle. Currently training up for Spartan Races in Malibu and Temecula Dec 2nd and Jan 27 respectively. ----------------------- Here is the breakdown of my experience for bodybuilding and losing fat Start - Filipino, 100lbs, 5'8" 33 inch waist, skinny, severe underweight, and I have high metabolism therefore I can eat anything ( not true) Goal, I wanna be buff, have muscle and abs revealed. Started basic exercise Pushups - 25 reps x 3 sets all three variations; regular, wide, close Pull Ups- 10-12 reps x 3 sets Sit Ups - 25 reps x 3 sets Did this for about one month, my Diet is still "Eat Anything and I'm okay" Moved to P90X did 30 days and quit. Made an excuse doesn't fit my schedule. Weight - 120lbs mix of fat and muscle Sedentary for two months dropped to 100lbs Redid P90X after motivation completed it 155lbs Talked to a trainer who completed P90X. My Diet was a problem, I told him, I have high metabolism and I eat and drink anything. The Trainer told me, "It doesn't work like that and that type of thinking will ruin your hard work." He gave me a breakdown of what I should eat for the 2nd Round of P90X following diet. Completed 2nd Round P90X with proper dietFinal Result- 140lbs, 28 inch waist (needed for 8% body fat and abs) i.imgur.com/RTY85.jpgMy goal from here is bulking up properly to 160lbs with a proper bulking up diet.

Welcome Dexterino! P90X does work! My sister and her fiance did it over the summer and it really whipped them into shape. Currently training up for Spartan Races in Malibu and Temecula Dec 2nd and Jan 27 respectively. You brave, brave soul. I'm training for Tough Muder, but Spartan Race is crazy! I have a friend planning to run an upcoming Spartan Race soon too.

Nice thanks for the support. Yeah I want to do tough mudder and I'm trying to get the So-Cal Bronies Meetup group in Spartan Races 3 mile and 8 mile Tough Mudder but some bronies are discouraged by the length. I really tell em it's a team effort and we can all help each other finish it.
So far I have a 3 bronies joining me in the Malibu 3 Mile Spartan Race.

Awesome! I have a brony friend training for Tough Mudder with me. He's the one who convinced me to do it! We were actually supposed to run it this past September, but it was canceled due to weather conditions. So, now we have to wait until September 2013 I will probably run Warrior Dash with him though when that comes up.

Welcome, friend!
I have P90X, too. I did it with a friend about a year ago for 70 days, but we never finished it. I have it with me now and I would like to do it again. What kind of diet do you do with the workout? My biggest issue is figuring out what to eat.

During my Round 2 of P90X I followed a proper diet from a trainer. My goal was to reveal the 6 pack, drop waist size of 33 inches - 28 inches and remove the fat throughout my body.
Here is an idea of foods to eat: chicken breast, tuna, salmon, lean ground beef (bashing up the beef and straining out the fat), egg whites or eggs with yolk, brown rice, protein shakes to supplement meal (not to replace a meal), all veggies and fruits (you can never get fat off them), water, protein bars, peanut butter, wheat bread.
This is to list some of many good foods to eat but it will depend on your fitness goals such as losing weight, increasing weight or gaining muscle.

Hey Dexterino!
I've thought about doing P90X but was never sure about it or if I had the right equipment.
Anyway I'm almost in the same boat, way too skinny and want to try and work up some body mass that isn't fat. Expect me to be following you around to see what you have to say!

Nice. I started skinny as well and decided I need to up my physical outlook. Equipment for P90X I used dumb bells, a pullup bar and proper diet to get results. "Muscles are made in the kitchen" it's true. I experienced it. P90X improper diet still had skinny fat and muscles aren't showing. Did another P90X with proper diet muscles went through. Tell me see if you can see the before and after pics. From 100lbs to 140lbs through trial and error i.imgur.com/RTY85.jpgI'm still trying to bulk up my legs and chest. I plan getting a 24 hour fitness membership.

I am hopefully going to be starting P90X soon. Just have to see if I can install a pull-up bar. I need to find the dimensions on the J brackets. Your suggestions of what to eat are spot on.

That's some nice progress there dude. I've found that P90X is great for losing weight if you are overweight, and getting to a certain level of size if you are small. Beyond a certain point, it doesn't do too much for size. Always great for cutting though!
In your picture, you seem to have a good deal of internal rotation. Do you mind me asking what exercises you do and if you sit at a desk all day? Internal rotation can increase the risk of a shoulder injury, and we don't want that to happen.
I can also try to help you with the legs. PM me with any questions you have!

gymratThanks, P90X got me cut and my abs. Now I need to bulk up from there; basically creating my foundation and building it up. Internal rotation which one are you referring to? Is there something in my pic where I'll get injured? Thanks. So far I haven't injured myself, get my regular checkups from my MD. For my legs I've been doing deadlifts, squats, and lunges with my Bowflex 1090 Dumb Bells.

If you look, you'll notice that the back of your hands is facing the camera and your arms are in front of your body. This is indicative of internal/ external rotation imbalance. Internal rotation is always more powerful than external, but you seem to have in imbalance. If that his how you normally stand, you are at an increased risk of shoulder impingement. Some drills to fix this include: Face Pulls: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kexr7CqnVngWall Extensions: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6V2Exzb324 (This one looks easy. Read the description and try it again. One of the hardest exercises I do.) Doing deadlifts, squats and lunges is certainly the right way to go, but I have a feeling that the dumbbells are too light to make your legs grow. The legs are full of powerful muscles and need a lot of weight to get bigger. I'd suggest getting a barbell or going to a gym for leg training.
