I think that training logs are a great way to write down goals, keep an eye on progress, and keep the rest of the community informed about what you are up to. Having a section that allows people to share their training/ diet progress would be a great way to keep people engaged and motivated IMO. Thanks for putting this together BTW, really outstanding idea!

Or maybe an editable section of one's profile?

I like this idea. Definitely motivating to see how much one progresses.
And I think it'd be much more social as a forum than as part of a profile, as well as much easier to create :S

I've been doing this for myself ever since I started back in July. I also take progress pictures every 3 weeks to see some visual progress/results after a while.
It's easiest done in a Google doc. We could create one for the forums if we want to keep a group-related progress doc for us. We could keep track of things such as mile run times, weight, bench maxes, and so on.

I'm looking for a good way to implement this and discussing it with the other mods.

Thanks. Glad to see that the staff are paying attention and responding to the requests of the forum's users. That right there is how you build a lasting community.

This is definitely my favorite suggestion, it sounds like a great motivational tool and a simple way to keep things organized.

I could create an Excel spreadsheet with all the names of those who want in on this. Have categories for some of the things everyone has suggested. Anyone who wants to view it can, and people could PM with changes/improvements and I could update it. What does everyone think? Let me know what categories you think we should have. Here's what I've got so far:
Weight, Height, Age, Best Mile Time, Best Lap Time, Bench Press, Push-ups, Pull-ups.

What I've seen done in other forums is that a separate sub-forum would be created just for training logs. Each log would be its own thread. You could post your daily workout, what you ate, and add enough text to describe how you were feeling that day.
I use a workout log book for my own workouts, but I would try to keep this updated if the forum was made. It is fun to look back and see the progress you and others have made.

And can also get some quantitative ideas about what makes a good work out schedule.

You can also look back at your log and say "Oh, when I stopped stretching my hamstrings, I got a knee injury two weeks later. I should stretch them from now on. And when I began doing good mornings, my squat went up 20 lbs. I should probably keep doing them!"
You can (and should) experiment with what works best for your body. A log is the best way to do that.
A word to the wise, don't start experimenting until you have been training for about a year or so! Preset programs will build the base you need to start testing your boundaries.

Done finally. My apologies for taking so long. We'll see how this works out.
