I can't be the only one that takes long walks? Often after a long day at work I'm too tired to jog or run and I am also in my uniform which I obviously don't want to get sweaty so I take long walk. I often walk eight or so miles a night, I listen to soundtracks, podcasts or just stare at the surrounding autumn beauty. This burns a surprising amount of calories without completely tiring me out, its also a good idea to do small things like walk down a side path than taking the direct path adding. Adding even small walks to the day can help, getting off the bus a couple stops early and trotting your way home has really helped my energy levels. Just my two rambling bits.

Is walking a good exercise for aerobic health, though?

It's certainly better than nothing. Obviously it is not the same as running or a dedicated workout, but inserting walks where you otherwise wouldn't is a nice was to ease into training.

I do a bit of walking/hiking when I have a day off usually. I typically walk about three miles when I do go walking. I find it helps me a lot, i feel better for the rest of the day and it creates the perfect atmosphere for alone time if I'm walking alone.
I've found walking improves my aerobic health, but my walks are intentional for that, I walk at a brisk pace but not a tiring one. I find hiking through the woods to be even more enjoyable though, like walking, it doesn't tire me out at all but I feel my body gets better results from an uneven terrain.
I also like to listen to music when walking by myself, I find walking to be a good form of meditation, it lets me think about all the things in my life that I would normally end up thinking about at a less desirable time, such as when I'm trying to fall asleep.

I have always wondered how beneficial walking is vs running. I really don't mind getting sweaty, and sometimes I even embrace it, but I wonder.

I live in a really hilly area, so my walks are at a brisk pace uphill, which I think is good... at least it gets my heart rate up. Especially when I go with someone and talk constantly while gasping for breath. In addition, I've started parking at least 8 blocks away from campus, which works out to about a mile a day extra. I just hate jogging because it feels like all my joints are getting pounded every time I hit the ground. I'm too delicate, I guess.

Walking is a good cardio exercise for the health and fitness. If you cann't run for longer, run for a short distance. 2 to 3 km running is enough to boost the body strength and stamina but it should be your regular routine.

I really like walking, and I find for me that how often I walk is related to a few things (which are related to each other). The first is that I'm close enough to walk/bike to work, and a lot of interesting things in the area. I do that if I have the time, instead of taking the bus/subway.
The second thing is that the question "Do I have the time?" is related to what I can do while walking. Listen to new music? To a podcast? Look at the sunset? Go to a new place? Go walking with someone and hang out? Just walking is pretty boring IMO, even if you're doing it with exercise in mind.
The third thing is switching the question from "Is walking better than running?" to "Is walking better than nothing?" I try to make my regular workouts, and then add in long walks on top of that. Plus, I try to take walks in the middle of work, or while doing work -- walking with a colleague and hashing out ideas, walking to a new place to sit and read/work outside for a while -- which is time that I would otherwise be sitting down. (I wish I could walk and read effectively, but that seems like a good way to get facetime with a lamppost...)
