How do you deal with stress on the job? Work is an unavoidable fact of everyday life for most of us, so it is very important to stay calm, for various reasons (like not getting fired).
Before the other day, my job was relatively peaceful. I'm a dairy clerk at a regional grocery store, and though we have our busy days, and business is picking up because another local grocery store recently went out of business, I still manage to make it through every day without getting too upset about anything. My biggest complaint had been a crowded fridge, or not having a certain product. But now I have a new manager, who I cannot stand to even be around.
I'll keep my personal opinions out of this and give you an example of why I already don't like her. Since all the products I work with have to stay refrigerated, We have a tarp-like drape that we keep above the products, so that we can unroll it down and keep the products cool in the event of a power outage. It's a real pain in the neck to keep it up there, as it has a tendency to unravel on its own. Well, the first thing she does on Sunday (our busiest day of the week) was walk up to me and say "I can see the tarp". Confused, I asked "So?" "So push it back". I then spent the next hour of my 6 hour shift pushing down all the tarp and finding things to weigh it down with.
But the kicker comes next. She then asks me "Why is there no 1% milk on the shelves? We're losing money". Being my boss, the only thing I could say to her was "Sorry, I'll get right on that". When in reality, there was no milk on the shelf because you made me waste the last hour doing pointless crap. I'm getting worked up again just typing this out.
So, tl;dr- I used to be fine at work. Not stressed at all. How do I deal with my new, terrible boss in a healthy way?
