While wandering around Youtube as one does on occasion I stumbled upon this: This is from 'Battle of the Nations' a full-and-proper full contact Medieval tournament held every year in eastern Europe. These are guys in full (period-accurate) armor, with real (blunted) weapons getting down to it.
What floors me about this is the strength and endurance that these competitors have: These guys are each wearing 60-70 pounds of armor each, wielding full-size and full weight weapons, and running, leaping, and doing all kinds of crazy moves that your average NFL player couldn't even THINK of doing...

Nice. I used to tell my sister the only time I'd ride a horse was if I could joust.

Jousting is not a BOTN event...yet. They had an exhibition this year, and there's rumors that it will be a full-fledged event in the next year or two.
There's also rumors that The USA team is forming a sort of 'Armored Combat League' to promote the sport in the US, which I'm sorta looking forward to.

I forgot what channel, but I saw a lot of advertisement for a show called, "Heavy Metal Jousting". And I heard people in my school talking about it, so it is definitely gaining popularity here in the states! I've always wanted to learn how to ride a horse, and now I get to hit people too, sign me up!

The show you're thinking of is 'Full Metal Jousting' and it ran on the History Network. They 'brought jousting into the modern world' with modified armor. While I admire the fact that they modified the armor for added safety, the 'modern' look took a little of a visual appeal out of it...
