I got the idea of making this thread from the "Hungry at Night" thread, it's really just a simple question mostly. What kind of effects does night time snacking supposedly have on the body?
Kind of asking for myself but also think it would be useful knowledge in general. I've always eaten heavily at night, before going to bed, and it's never really affected me negatively, though I've always heard it's rather unhealthy to do so. So I'm just curious if I'm simply lucky with it or maybe there's something more that I don't know about? Other than weight gain I can't find a lot of info about this particular issue.

Eating at night does not affect weight gain. If you take in more calories than your body needs, you will gain weight. It doesn't matter when you eat those calories. However, eating a large amount of food (Especially those high in carbohydrates) late at night can impact the quality of your sleep. Poor quality sleep, and not enough sleep, have both been linked to higher rates of obesity and weight gain. Hope that answers your question!
