Not really sure if I can post this here, seeing as it's not really training physically? I just thought it could be interesting to have a log for a juice fast. I start my juice fast today, I'm planning on going for two weeks right now. I may decide to extend it later on though. I'll be attempting this juice fast with a recipe called Mean Green, it's one I've had several times before so I already know I like it. Wish me luck.

Consider the luck wished. I watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and loved it. Lots of good information. A good juicer is on my wish list of kitchen appliances. Soon it will be mine . . .

Thanks! That was the movie I watched that inspired this and just learning about juicing in general. As of today, I currently weigh 185 lbs, I was at 180 or so just the other day but... Christmas and all. I'm off to the market now.

On my second day of Juicing now, first day went well. I'll probably change my recipe, my local supermarket monopoly doesn't keep very fresh kale in stock, probably substitute it with spinach. I might also add kiwi to the recipe to help sweeten it up.
Having my juice breakfast right now, I made it last night, it's always a challenge for me to drink refrigerated juice compared to freshly made. It's never easy for me to get a liquid down in the mornings anyway.
On the plus side, I feel good, no bad side effects such as migraines or anything like that. Though I'm not sure when that's supposed to kick in either. I've never seen anyone give specific times on when they start feeling sick from doing this other than a general "first few days". I wasn't sure if this would happen to me anyway, I tend to eat somewhat healthy and very natural foods anyway so I don't think it's a major change to my body like it is for most people going straight from fast food Mcdonald meals to juice fast.
I'm looking forward to seeing what challenges lie ahead in solid foods for me. I haven't asked anyone around me to change their eating habits for my sake during this juice fast so I'm sure I'll have to fight off the temptation of steaks, taco salads, and who knows what.
For anyone wondering about exercise I might be doing, I'm not exactly doing anything specific, nothing is planned out for it. It'll all be done spontaneously through the fast, it's how I normally do my exercising anyway. Mostly what I'll be doing is sitting on my butt playing video games because Steam sale.

If you like kale, try cutting out the ribs and tearing the leaves into 3 - 4 inch pieces. Then toss them with a little bit of olive oil, salt, and smoked paprika (Or whatever taste suits you). Spray a baking sheet and bake them at 350ºF for about 12 - 15 minutes (Till they get crunchy). Enjoy a healthy chip!
Also, what Steam games do you play?

I've tried Kale chips before, inspired by a bag of them I saw at the store one day, except those in the bag I found to be disgusting. Made my own a while back though, using same recipe minus the paprika, and really liked them, even though they were a little burnt. It'd be faster to list which Steam games I don't play. I have over 200 games and a good 1/4th I still haven't even played, and somehow the Steam sales still tempt me from time to time. If you want to, feel free to add me on Steam, same name as on here. Actually we should make a thread for that, I'm sure we have plenty of gamers here.

Well it's my third day of the juice fast now, still feel good, no negative reactions to it, I guess my attempts to eat healthy before now are really paying off. I've been trying to keep a good exercise routine going, mostly focusing on trying to walk each day or at least every other day, for about 30 minutes or more. Getting in some chin-ups and push-ups as well. My recipe still has the kale in it, the store got some fresh so I didn't need to switch to spinach, good thing too because they still had bad batches of that on the shelf. If there's one thing I've learned here so far, never start a juice fast after a holiday, chances are that produce isn't very fresh. I have decided to add kiwi to the recipe, I think it helps balance out the lemon and ginger. If they get fresh spinach in, I will probably add that to the recipe as well. Since starting, I'm down to 177~, which I doubt is an accurate measurement, fairly certain only a small amount of that is fat. I think I can get a more accurate measurement when I'm finished and back on a normal diet. I feel pretty much the same, maybe a little healthier, a bit more tired at night.

Still going strong, I think I'm starting to miss solid food a bit now though. I guess I'm on my fifth day of juicing now, never did get any of the headaches or nausea people talk about from their experiences. Honestly, it's a little disappointing in a way, it kind of feels like I missed out on part of the experience, but I really can't complain since it's the one bad part of the experience, so it's definitely a good thing.
I've also decided to add a liquid form of vitamin D, I have a pill phobia and can only manage to take pills with solids. Since sunlight isn't something I'm fond of in the first place and I can't easily get it from that with these cloudy winter skies anyway, I figured it would be good to add some to my juice when I drink it.

I'm thinking I might change my plan a little bit, I might stop on the 2nd of January now. It's not the two weeks that I originally planned on but but it is a full one week, which I would be happy enough with. At this point I'm just not sure I'm seeing a whole lot of benefits from a juice fast, if anything I think it's taught me some things and made me a little wiser but as far as health goes, it's certainly not something that I "need" to do or continue doing I don't think.
Still thinking on it right now, might go for a full week but I might just stop later tonight even, still not sure what I want to do.
Edit: Well I've decided to go back to normal eating now, while I'm not sure, I think I may have had some mild anemia going on from iron deficiency. I'll probably make another post in a day or two for my weight, I figure once I'm back to eating normal I can get a better guess at my actual weight loss.

Well I weigh about 175-180 now, so I think it's safe to say I lost some fat during my fast. My final recipe for juicing was a bit different from when I started. I took the Mean Green recipe and added: -Two Kiwi (mainly to help sweeten the flavor, I love kiwi, but also because they're a good source of vitamin C) -four or five strawberries (helps with the flavor mainly) -one or two handful of spinach The spinach, as well as the other two, were also added mainly for their protein and iron. Things I learned during my fast: - Iron deficiency, this is something people might easily overlook but is very important, and it's probably easily forgotten because the way we normally eat would provide us with plenty of iron so it never becomes an issue in general. This could lead to anemia, I certainly seemed to have a mild case of it later on in the fast. Don't let this be a deterrent though, it's entirely possible to get all the iron you need and more in a juice with proper ingredients. - This next point relates to the previous one a bit, if you aren't keeping up with your doctor while doing a juice fast, make sure you at least have a spotter. This is essential and it could be dangerous without it. I was doing my absolute best to be aware of any illness that may be developing from my fast and even then I wasn't really catching it, I thought I "may" have anemia but it was having another health conscious person around to keep an eye on me that really helped me identify it. - My next point is about timing, if you were to decide to do this, try for spring or summer time, never do this in the winter. The main reason being that you may be stuck snowed in on a particular day and you may be out of or low on supplies for juicing. You're already going somewhat hungry on a juice fast, you don't need to compound it with actual starvation. There's also the matter of sunlight, it's a lot more scarce in the winter, and you aren't all that likely to go out into the snow in shorts and tank top for that matter. You won't be getting any vitamin D from milk or anything like that while on a juice fast, so sunlight is important, and adding a supplement isn't a bad idea either. My last lesson being, don't stick to one recipe. Try to find multiple recipes to keep things interesting for your taste buds. Believe me, tasting the exact same thing over and over again for days on end will make your taste buds very unhappy. Even if the juice still taste good, your tongue just loses appreciation for it. My final note is for anyone interested in pricing. Of course this all depends on where you live and what's available to you. My total spending for juicing supplies for roughly one week's worth of juicing ended up being about $40. This was actually pretty good, most people tend to go higher than that. This is excluding my vitamin D supplement however, I don't believe it is essential to juicing so I don't want to include it. Overall this was a fun and enjoyable experience, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone, whether they're already healthy or not. Provided they do it safely of course.
