Okay so i wanted to make this thread to focus on just the core, the abs mainly. I think when we think of our abs and working out, most of us really only consider situps and crunches. However, what if you have a sore back and doing a single situp on the floor just puts you in pain?
That's my main focus here, to introduce a larger variety of ab exercises, especially those that get us off our backs.
For starters I want to mention the Hanging Leg Raise. This is a pretty controversial exercise and one that I just recently started attempting as I have a sore back. There's a few ways to pull this one off, it all mostly depends on your upper body strength and endurance. For those that need a little help staying in a hanging position, there are things like Ab Straps or even full stands designed for it, like in this video.
This is another video that helps show the proper way of doing a hanging leg raise. The video overall is a bit peculiar and titled oddly but the instructor does well to show off good form.
A couple easier ones are the stability poses. You do this with your own body weight or a dumbbell. This video focuses more on the body weight exercises with which you would use an exercise ball. Specifically the plank, seen at around 2:50, is supposed to be a great exercise, which can be done with or without a ball but most people seem to think it's better done with the ball rather than on the floor. I personally haven't tried these so I don't know how effective they are, I have played around with a few on an exercise ball and I can say at the very least, it's hard to balance on one so probably want to go small and work your way up, or else you fall down on your face like I did.
That's all for now, i might add more later on, I'm just getting into checking out the alternatives for ab exercises myself so I don't have a lot to share yet.
